SUNY-Albany must stop doing Monsanto’s work: Manufactured doubt. Companies have used this time-worn tactic to stop policy and stymie public health improvements for decades. Monsanto, hamstrung for years by researcher David Carpenter’s testimony, gets help from his university to silence him.

Growing evidence shows common chemicals may harm sperm and pregnancies: Chemicals called phthalates, found in everything from detergent to plastic shower curtains, are tied to lower sperm counts and more miscarriages. Men with higher concentrations of phthalates in their urine (a measure of exposure) have lower sperm counts and poorer sperm motility than men with less of these substances. Women with high levels of exposure are more likely to have fertility problems, miscarriages, preterm labor and low-birth-weight babies.

Events in East Palestine are a stark reminder that plastic is destroying the planet. From its production to its use to its disposal, the stuff is a poison. Five rail cars of vinyl chloride burned, some of it done intentionally to reduce building pressure, likely producing toxic compounds called dioxins. Because hot air rises, the flames from the train sent a black plume high into the air, potentially spreading toxicants far beyond the site of the derailment. “The thing about dioxins is they’re potent at really low levels, and are persistent and bioaccumulative,” they persist in the body instead of breaking down. Many of these are endocrine-disrupting chemicals, or EDCs, and make our hormones go haywire. That’s why bisphenol A, aka BPA, was singled out, after scientists linked it to cancer, behavioral conditions, and diabetes.

Massive Iceberg Breaks Off Antarctic Brunt Ice Shelf – View From Space: In February 2019, a rift spanning most of the Brunt Ice Shelf in Antarctica appeared ready to spawn an iceberg about twice the size of New York City. The question among scientists was not if the growing rift would finish traversing the shelf and break, but when? Now, nearly four years later, it has done just that. As for the “new” Brunt, it remains to be seen how the complex floating glacial ice responds to the most recent calving event. According to Shuman: “We have no solid idea what ‘normal’ really is for this unusual ice shelf.”

Florida doctors refuse abortion for woman whose baby is expected to live less than 2 hours: “The baby was no longer buoyed in ample amniotic fluid, Deborah’s doctor gently told her. The kidneys were not developing properly, failing to produce the liquid that protects the fetus and promotes the development of vital organs. She didn’t think the baby would survive without a transplant, and she urged Deborah to follow up quickly with a specialist in maternal fetal medicine.” Further testing brought no better news. Scientists make hydrogen straight from seawater: The process saves a lot of energy and money normally spent on desalination. Over 99% of all the hydrogen produced by mankind is actually made from and using fossil fuels. The most common method for producing hydrogen is natural gas reforming, a process in which methane from natural gas is heated, with steam, usually with a catalyst, to produce a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Overall, fossil fuel-derived hydrogen accounts for 830 million tons of carbon dioxide a year, which is more than the annual emissions of the United Kingdom and Indonesia combined.

The Sooner We Start Thinking of the College Board as a Business, the Better; the Florida controversy is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s an ingenious business model. And in America, businesses have the right to operate, as long as they don’t run afoul of the law. But like any business, the College Board should be held accountable for faults in its products and especially for public activities that contradict its mission.

A GOP lawmaker wrote a one-sentence bill to abolish the Department of Education. His reasoning doesn’t address student loans, grants, or any of the major things the department does. “The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2022.” When Insider asked Massie how abolishing the department would impact programs and laws that specifically rely on the department, he said that “unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. should not be in charge of our children’s intellectual and moral development.”

Why a pipeline project in Houston is raising concerns over environmental racism: The smell was a reminder of how close she lives to a storage facility bearing 300,000 gallons of liquid propane. And now, CenterPoint Energy plans to install natural gas pipeline transmission lines 4 feet underground. Initial construction will be just 50 feet from her home, King said.

Montana’s anti-Indigenous politics aren’t going away: The now-dead proposal to ‘investigate’ reservations was neither the beginning or the end of combative attitudes towards tribal nations in the state. In early January, the Montana State Legislature’s 2023 session started with a bang. That first week, Sen. Keith Regier, R-Kalispell, brought a draft resolution calling on the U.S. Congress to “investigate alternatives to the reservation system,” using language rife with misinformation and the stereotypes typical of anti-Indigenous groups. After pushback from the state’s bipartisan American Indian Caucus, tribal nations and his own constituents, Regier said he would not introduce the legislation, adding that it had been written by a local constituent

CDC Data Reveal Multiple COVID Jabs Can Knock Up to 24 Years off a Person’s Expected Lifespan: The latest health data from the government of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia confirms something we have been warning you about for quite some time now: covid “vaccines” produce vaccine-induced AIDS (VAIDS), which in turn sheds many years off a person’s life – and progressively more so with the passage of time.

The Twilight of the Deficit Hawks: President Biden’s willingness during the State of the Union to hold Republicans accountable for wanting to cut social spending is indicative of one optimistic trend: The era of bipartisan deficit hawkery is coming to a close. Read David Dayen on how the paradigm on social programs in Washington has shifted. Democrats have stopped being the willing partner in a great conspiracy to slash social insurance.

Republicans Have Wanted To Cut Medicare And Social Security For Decades: “Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset every five years,” President Joe Biden said at Tuesday’s State of the Union. President Biden drew a raucous response from Republicans during his State of the Union address on Tuesday night when he said some GOP lawmakers want to cut Social Security and Medicare. “Anybody who doubts it, contact my office. I’ll give you a copy of the proposal,” he said as Republican lawmakers jeered.

Will the Education Culture War Backfire on Republicans? The GOP’s culture war on K-12 education is a false pretext for the same old agenda of undermining public schools. But according to new polling, parents have vastly different priorities. Conservative screaming about  wokeness is a substitute for the old priorities of school vouchers and weakening of public education. Polls show that parents don’t agree.

9-year-old Black prodigy has already begun college, but schools often fail to recognize highly talented Black students: Anti-Black bias and lack of teacher referrals are keeping Black students out of gifted school programs, a scholar suggests. The latest example is David Balogun, a 9-year-old Pennsylvania boy who recently became the second-youngest person to graduate from high school, which he did after taking classes remotely. David, whose parents own and run a psychiatric clinic, has also already begun taking courses at a community college.

A Bus-Sized Robot Will Soon Be Mining the Ocean Floor: Miners plan to use massive, robotic machines that operate like super-charged vacuum cleaners. Once lowered thousands of feet to the ocean floor, they begin sucking up precious minerals, as well as the top 5-30 centimeters of the seafloor and any marine life that gets in the way. The process has been likened to clearcutting a forest and then siphoning off all the nutrient-rich soil. Even worse, the thick layer of ocean floor that the mining machines would suck up and pump out would create a massive plume of debris, similar to an underwater sandstorm, that could harm life for hundreds of miles in every direction.

In recent years, the climate impact of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, has gotten increasing attention. It’s the main component of fracked gas and a byproduct of oil, and can leak into the atmosphere at various points in the production and transportation of these fossil fuels. Growing body of research suggests offshore oil’s methane pollution is underestimated. Previous efforts to regulate offshore methane emissions stalled, despite role in helicopter crashes.

What is REACH? In the waning days of the Trump Administration, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) launched a pilot program called Medicare Direct Contracting. This under-the-radar program invited third-party middlemen to “manage” the care of Traditional Medicare beneficiaries. It also created a financial incentive for these middlemen to frustrate patients and deny medically necessary care. Thanks to the efforts of thousands of activists, Direct Contracting became thoroughly discredited and the Biden Administration was pressured to address the program. Unfortunately, their response was to simply rebrand Direct Contracting as Medicare REACH, a program that retains the worst elements of its predecessor and in some cases is even more generous to industry. Pfizer Hiking Covid Vaccine Prices Against Weaker Demand Speaks Volumes About U.S. Healthcare
As the U.S. plans to relinquish its role as the predominant purchaser of the Covid-19 vaccine to the commercial sector, vaccine manufacturers Moderna and Pfizer have announced plans to hike the price of the vaccine by over 400 percent. The decision would increase the price from $26 to $110-130 per dose, despite it costing only $2.85 to produce. Pfizer and Moderna made record-breaking profits from the Covid-19 vaccine, but taxpayers funded the development of the Covid-19 vaccines in 2020 through Operation Warp Speed and the CARES Act. The new total for wrongful payments is nearly $30 billion higher than a previous rough estimate of $163 billion. The updated number is based on applying the Labor Department’s latest estimate of the improper payment rate for the unemployment insurance program overall — 21.52%, up from 18.71% last year — to the $888 billion in total federal and state unemployment benefits paid during the pandemic.

Point: ‘Only in America,’ Not ‘Once Upon a Time’: America is the greatest nation on earth because it is the freest nation. We often say the “sky’s the limit.” However, Native Americans, Blacks, women, immigrants, and religious minorities were excluded from the inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

“Midterm spending spree”: Cost of 2022 federal elections tops $8.9 billion, a new midterm record: “The ever-escalating spending race between political parties means the price of admission to Congress keeps climbing,” said OpenSecrets Executive Director Sheila Krumholz. “But all of that money had hardly left American voters more or better informed. “This midterm spending spree was preceded by years of lax campaign finance regulations and oversight following the Supreme Court’s 2010 decision in Citizens United, and I anticipate more federal election spending records will be smashed in 2024,” Krumholz said.

Major Republican Donor Network Seeks Alternative to Trump: “Americans for Prosperity has been one of, if not the most, influential money groups on the conservative side for the last decade and a half,” Sarah Bryner, director of research and strategy at OpenSecrets, told VOA. In the latest sign that Donald Trump may have difficulty earning a third consecutive nomination for president by the Republican Party, Americans for Prosperity, a major conservative interest group and source of campaign donations, has announced it will seek to endorse a 2024 candidate other than the former president.

Border chief: Mexican cartels use drones to identify law enforcement locations: In the past year, there have been more than 10,000 drone incursions flown by Mexican cartels operating in Mexico and in Texas in the Rio Grande Valley Sector of south Texas, Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Gloria Chavez testified Tuesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. The cartels are using the drones to identify where state and federal law enforcement officers are to avoid them and engage in criminal activity, she explained.

Border chief: Majority illegally entering Tucson Sector are single military age men: What’s portrayed on national television about large family groups with small children claiming asylum at the southern border isn’t what’s happening in the Tucson Sector of Arizona, Border Patrol Chief John Modlin testified on Tuesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. “The most notable factor that sets Tucson apart from the rest of the southwest border is the migrant demographic. It is not what you see on the news,” he said.

Border patrol presentation reveals plan to release illegal crossers en masse into U.S. communities: Roughly six weeks before testifying Tuesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, Chief Border Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez held a meeting with local law enforcement in Weslaco, Texas, describing the administration’s plan to release en masse illegal foreign nationals into the U.S. when Title 42 ended.

Lack of border security is impacting local Arizona law enforcement: As a former law enforcement officer from Southern Arizona, I have seen first-hand the direct impact failed border policies have on local communities and police departments: Due to lack of federal resources and policy changes made by the Biden administration, Border Patrol agents have been pulled away from the line of defense where they would normally be interdicting cartel operatives and smugglers, to instead process foreign nationals. As a result, local police agencies are engaging in more drug interdiction cases on top of their normal caseload.

Deep Seabed Mining Plans Pit Renewable Energy Demand Against Ocean Life in a Largely Unexplored Frontier
As companies race to expand renewable energy and the batteries to store it, finding sufficient amounts of rare earth metals to build the technology is no easy feat. That’s leading mining companies to take a closer look at a largely unexplored frontier – the deep ocean seabed. A wealth of these metals can be found in manganese nodules that look like cobblestones scattered across wide areas of deep ocean seabed. But the fragile ecosystems deep in the oceans are little understood, and the mining codes to sustainably mine these areas are in their infancy.

Even with legal protections, extreme heat and wildfire take a toll on farmworkers: Nearly half of workers in California say their farms are not in compliance with safety codes for extreme weather, survey finds. Mass shootings at two California mushroom farms last month drew national attention to the dismal working and living conditions imposed on California farmworkers. Surveys of California Terra Garden and Concord Farms, where the assailant had worked, revealed families living in trailers and shipping containers, using makeshift kitchens and portable toilets. State and federal officials have opened investigations into the farms, where workers reported earning below minimum wage.

‘Plant A Tree For Me’: Leonard Peltier reflects on hitting 48 years in prison; “The United States has kept me locked up because I am American Indian,” said the ailing Indigenous rights activist who Biden could free, but hasn’t: Monday marks 48 years in prison for Leonard Peltier, the Indigenous rights activist who the U.S. government put behind bars after a trial riddled with misconduct and lies, and who definitely doesn’t belong there. The FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office made a fall guy out of Peltier, now 78, when they convicted him of murdering two FBI agents during a 1975 shootout on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. They never had evidence that he murdered anyone, and the amount of wrongdoing that took place in his trial is mind-boggling: Government prosecutors hid exculpatory evidence.

There Is Nowhere Safe When You’re Black; From the formation of America to the killing of Tyre Nichols by Memphis police, Black bodies have never been safe: For all the progress on civil rights made in the last couple of generations, Black people apprehended by law enforcement in 2023 have no real expectations of safety. When they get stopped by police for any reason, there are no reliable channels of reason and appeal. As the recent tragic, totally unnecessary death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, Tennessee, proves, again, Black people aren’t safe anywhere.

Colorado River crisis so severe lakes Mead and Powell are unlikely to refill in our lifetimes: Lake Mead, located on the Arizona-Nevada border and held back by Hoover Dam, filled in the 1980s and 1990s. In 2000, it was nearly full and lapping at the spillway gates. But the megadrought over the last 23 years, the most severe in centuries, has worsened the water deficit and left Lake Mead about 70% empty. Upstream, Lake Powell has declined to just 23% of full capacity and is approaching a point where Glen Canyon Dam would no longer generate power.

Lies and truth about the “deportation” of children from Ukraine: At the same time, of course, Zelensky does not say where, how and under what circumstances the “deportation of children” takes place. As usual, false propagandists, he reports only part of the facts, silent about the causes and real actions and consequences of what is happening. The forced displacement of minors in Russia is part of Vladimir Putin’s project ‘to erase the Ukrainian identity and nation,’ say a group of intellectuals and child psychiatrists, including Bernard Golse and the anthropologist Véronique Nahoum-Grappe.

“Acute Psychosis after COVID-19 Vaccination”: Croatian Study’s Alert relaunched by US MD McCullough. Unvaccinated patients have mentioned half-jokingly that COVID-19 vaccination in friends and family makes some of them “crazy.” Fear-driven vaccine ideology taking over common sense in some zealots, the building literature on neuropsychiatric symptoms is alarming. There are now 10 papers describing headache, fever, and a range of acute neuropsychiatric symptoms after both mRNA and adenoviral COVID-19 vaccination. The strong bias among editors and publishers has kept countless papers out of the mainstream medical media

Ukraine is sinking, are western elites bailing out? As Ukraine’s battlefield losses mount, and it becomes more evident Russia will control the territory east of the Dnieper River, the flaws in Washington’s strategy will become more apparent and will be sharply criticized. What makes the RAND Corporation’s latest report on Ukraine so significant, is not the quality of the analysis, but the fact that the nation’s most prestigious national security think-tank has taken an opposite position on the war than the Washington political class and their globalist allies. As charges loom over Trump, prosecutors come under fire, a criminal justice expert explains what’s at stake: Prosecutors are supposed to be ministers of justice, immune from outside influence, but they’re also people with biases and vulnerabilities. So, when they’ve got high-profile figures like Trump screaming their names out in the national media, it has to increase the pressure on them and how they use their discretion and power. When a case plays out on the national stage, prosecutors may wind up paying attention not only to the specific facts of the case being featured in the spotlight, but also how it is being perceived by their constituents and portrayed by the national and local media.
