A Saudi company took as much water as it wanted during Arizona drought: Lax rules let a Saudi-owned company pump water from Arizona state land to grow alfalfa for the kingdom’s cattle. Fondomonte relented, telling the state that it had used 16,415 acre-feet of water last year at its farm in the Butler Valley. That’s enough to cover about 12,500 football fields with a foot of water.
