Armenian Tensions with Tel Aviv on the Rise Over Azeri-Israeli MilitaryTies: Armenians have been going through their own plight, largely ignored by most of the international community. By September 30, in less than a week, over 100,000 people had been reported to have fled the Nagorno-Karabakh region, also known as Artsakh, historically considered to be a sacred homeland of Armenians on the disputed Armenian-Azerbaijani border (quite arbitrarily incorporated into Azerbaijan in the early Soviet years).

The global power balance has been dramatically reshuffled, and the potential for disastrous miscalculation hasn’t been so high in 80 years.

Republicans Are Breaking America’s Ancient Constitution: Parliaments have mechanisms for resolving the impasse in the House of Representatives. The U.S. does not. Jordan lost an internal caucus vote for Speaker and is now out of the running. It is unclear who if anyone could obtain majority support at this point; acting Speaker Patrick McHenry (R-NC) may end up serving as caretaker through January.

The U.S. and Europe in a Time of Crisis; Military stresses are compounded by economic divisions: The Biden administration has been working hard to keep the European Union and its major constituent nations in support of America’s basic policies on Israel-Gaza and Russia-Ukraine. This is no mean feat, since many Europeans tend to be more war-weary and averse to open conflict with Russia, and less clearly on the side of Israel.
